27th November 2024
On Wednesday, the College had the pleasure of hosting the Digital Technologies Network and IOT 360 Video Group, A day packed with innovation, collaboration, and exciting discussions around the future of education.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome and a quick rundown of the agenda, before attendees set off to explore the YHIoT Centre, where robotic technologies were on full display with our very own Sharon Kirby offering attendees an insight into this fascinating tech, and its potential for these technologies to revolutionise education.
After catching up on the latest developments in 360° video and digital technologies used in assessment and teaching. The day then turned into an open forum for discussing future priorities and updates from member Colleges.
There were deep dives into how AI can transform assessments, how immersive technologies (like drones and virtual reality) are reshaping the classroom, and how colleges can develop more sustainable resources.
A review of the launch of The Metaverse: A Critical Introduction by Maggi Savin-Baden and David Burden was a given by one of our attendees Kevin Burden, offering valuable insights into how the Metaverse is impacting education and society as a whole.
After lunch, attendees took a dive into the VISR VR environment at Bishop Burton College with Caroline Reid, showcasing a VR piece currently being created by 2 or our butchery apprentices.
Looking ahead, the group is already excited about upcoming events, including the BETT visit in January and Digital Spring in March—both promising to bring more opportunities to explore cutting-edge educational technologies.
All in all, it was a day full of fresh ideas, new connections, and a shared commitment to advancing digital technologies in education.

At Bishop Burton we are embedding technology into the curriculum by focusing on extending learning outside of the classroom via our VLE. We understand that learning can continue outside the classroom and technology is the key to making this a success. We monitor our courses based on student engagement and quality of resources which follows on from the development within our VLE.
We provide our staff with monthly training sessions on all kinds of technology from student response tools to interactive web tools and week by week we can see staff engaging with new technologies. In addition, our short online courses help staff develop in their own time, as a group or on a one-to-one basis.
Bishop Burton College strives for excellence and under the direction of our Information Learning Technology Group and the assistance of our ILT Coaches, we provide the support to enable this to happen.
